I wouldn't bother with the Alfa, however, that MGB GT V8..... it's what dreams are made of. Utterly gorgeous.

Yeah, £10k for one of those seems a little sketchy, although £12k would probably be reassuring. I'm convinced that there's a lot of potential in the old Sprints. As far as I know, the 6-cylinder is an extension of the Alfa twincam block, so a lot of the go-fast bits from the Nord engines should fit (plus allowing a rebore to 3.0l).
Agreed wholeheartedly with the MGB GT V8 though. I will make one at some stage, although I'm undecided as to the looks.
I rather like the Sebring arches (good examples on this modified MGC GT ), but I'm not sure on the bonnet. Half of me says this looks great, half says it's a bit brash.

What I hate about PH's classifieds is that I keep forgetting there's a substancial difference between the sterling pound and the euro.

Must be a bummer :S
Still, at least you don't have the faff of trying to find RHD versions of cars sold primarily in Europe (GTV6, Alfetta, Biturbo etc)

I know these guys: Alfarium , and they happen to have a '64 as a project there, direct link: 2600 Sprint . The car looks marvelous, but as far as i understood them, it's more of a GT, than a proper sports Alfa. The interior is exquisitely appointed for instance, and the i6 block is very heavy. In all, not my cup of tea, when it comes to old Alfas, but of course it's not me choosing either :-) This is the Alfetta i drove btw, I'm told they sold it since, to Germany of all places.
Fun fact: the 2600 had a beautiful chassis, and they planned not to take it apart, as it didn't seem to need it, but when looking under the carpet, the floor was full with fiberglass - probably some flooding, as the sills were ok, only the flat bits needed repair some time before......

Yes, that's true. And if a car is by any chance RHD it'll sell for half as much as it normally would, which can be an advantage if you're not interested in actually using it.

Oh sweet :) maybe it isn't suspiciously cheap after all.
How heavy is the block in these cars? As far as I was aware they were all-alloy. Not that that ensures it's lightweight of course. The AJ6 engine is all alloy and that still weighs 220kg fully dressed.
Agreed on the 2600 not being my first choice of classic Alfa (I'd much prefer an early Alfetta saloon or GTV, a Berty coupe or a Giulietta Spider). Still, I reckon that with some work it'd be a creditable competitor to a 3.0 CSL, and that's all I'd want really.
